On 25th October, across Southwark as part of BBC’s Autumnwatch, local residents and London Wildlife Trust staff and volunteers will be rolling up their sleeves and picking up tools to turn community green spaces into nature and people-friendly Breathing Places.
A series of six family nature events will take place across the borough, encouraging everyone to ‘do one thing for nature’ and join in with local projects, from litter picking to planting bulbs.
The Autumnwatch Action Team will lead the way when they return to Surrey Square. London Wildlife Trust is working alongside the BBC and Southwark Council team to continue work started back in June, when the site was transformed into a wildlife haven by the Springwatch Action Team (SWAT), which included London Wildlife Trust volunteers, local people and council staff.
This time the plan is to add seating, wildflowers, scrubs, native trees and hedgerow all designed to encourage more birds, bees and butterflies.
Join us – everyone's welcome and it promises to be a brilliant day. And if you can’t make it, watch out for us over the weekend on BBC One!
